Volunteer Code of Ethics
Volunteers should be familiar with the CEU Prehistoric Museum Code of Ethics; however, the following specifically apply to Museum volunteers.
Museum volunteers work around objects and information that may be unique and irreplaceable. With this in mind, they must perform all duties to the best of their ability and training, and seek staff assistance when appropriate. No volunteer should handle any museum specimen without direct staff supervision and training.
Volunteers shall not expect benefits or favors from the Museum other than those specifically outlined in the volunteer manual.
Volunteers may not act on their own in behalf of the Museum or the use of the name of the Museum without permission of a Museum staff member or the Director.
Volunteers should be aware of the public perception of them as linked to the Museum and act in no way to discredit the Museum. Photographs or other public information created by the Museum of volunteer activities are subject to Museum property rules with the tacit agreement of the volunteers.
Volunteers may not collect items for the Museum without the prior written permission of the Director and the appropriate curator or agency.
Sensitive information gained by association with the Museum or access to Museum records shall be held confidential. Sensitive information may include, but is not restricted to, matters of Museum administration and planning, personal information regarding employees, board members, volunteers or donors, and locational information on archaeological or paleontological sites. Volunteers shall not contact any news media in reference to the release or publication of the above information. Volunteers are expected to resolve any questions regarding sensitive information with staff prior to distribution.
Volunteers are expected to support the Museum in the community.
